Is the United States heading for a (second) civil war?

The U.S. workforce and tax system are indeed complex, with various factors influencing the overall economic structure. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports employment and wage data that can provide insights into the workforce distribution and taxable wages. Additionally, the Tax Foundation’s analysis of the U.S. tax burden on labor highlighted the progressive nature of the tax system, where higher-income workers bear a larger share of the income tax burden. It’s important to consider these data points to understand the dynamics of the workforce and tax contributions in the U.S. economy.

With a total population of 335 million, 25 million American are public servants or working for the government, 67 million Americans are fully dependent, 24 million don’t work (but they could), so in total 116 million.

On the other side, 134 million are fully employed. But almost half of them are not subject to the federal income tax. In fact, only 29 million American taxpayers pay 90% of the total federal income tax, including 1.16 million taxpayers who pay 46% of the federal income tax!

While they are always being asked for more effort, how long will these taxpayers be willing to pay for the rest of the country?

In addition, public spending has become uncontrollable creating a serious societal problem because it impacts the federal debt. The amount of the federal debt of $ 34 trillion is a topic of much discussion. However, we talk less about the sum of money required to pay off the loan’s interest. The cost of the $34 trillion national debt of the United States exceeded the historic milestone of $1 trillion in interest every three months in the final quarter of 2023.

Money printing has caused the dollar to lose more than 97% of its value over the past century.

With an aging population, exploding health problems, a fertility rate of only 1.62%, drug, criminality, and a federal debt of $ 34 trillion, how can we imagine a future other than a civil war?
